ATTENTION: Work at home moms, stay at home moms, moms in transition and home-based business moms...

Does the thought of leaving your newborn home to
work over 40 hours a week cause anxiety or do you
feel like you're worth more than your 9-5, and if you're
tired of making money for someone else?...
you are not alone.

From: Lucinda Cross, The Business Midwife and Chief Corporate Dropout

Happy Holidays Fellow Dropout or Wannabe Dropout,

It all started in 2000

I had no children yet but the seed of entrepreneurialism was planted in my belly, and we all know that as women most of our decisions are made “from the belly”. There was something about freedom that just would not let me sleep. The freedom to have my own income, the freedom , to take vacations out side of an arranged situation, the freedom to be sick without answering to anyone, the freedom to wonder and wander about my next money maker. The next year 2001, freedom meant something completely different, it was now the freedom to be home or away with my new found life that was set to arrive in 3 months. Therefore, my life changed and I gave birth to a boy and to my first side hustle. Fast forward to 2004, three years later I had given birth to my little princess and to my second side hustle.

Maternity Leave sucks
I don’t know about you but one thing I do know is that 6-8 weeks of maternity leave is not what I call “recoup time”. Post partum took about 3 weeks for me, getting used to maneuvering around the house lactating was another 3 weeks, trying to get a sleep schedule was another 4 weeks and just getting used to a little mini person took longer than the scheduled dates, given by my employers.

I was working my business at night, going to work during the day, sneaking to see my baby during lunch breaks and running to my office during breaks to pump my breast. Not fun and especially not what I had in mind. That routine had worn on me and I still needed to feed that burning desire that still lay awake in my belly.

Welcome Business Mom, Goodbye Career slave.
The burning desire I had was a business in the belly that would create a lifestyle and a world of possibilities. Do you have a business in the belly? Are you living your purpose? I had to stop my side hustles that were great and they let me know that all is possible within me, but now was the time to stop dipping and dabbing and start a real business. The business of FREEDOM. Free- meaning not obstructed, bound, or confined, Dom- meaning state or fact of being. Combined these two words, one adjective and one noun gives you a lifestyle. A business mom lifestyle.

I am now a busy bee; I am a mompreneur or serialpreneur.
I am home for my kids, I pick them up from school on time, we go to the park, we eat ice cream , I love what I do, I don’t mind putting in the blood, seat and tears, for my dreams and goals. I take care of my clients, my mentee’s, my business and my book business. I can’t complain this is exactly what I wanted, oh let me not forget I have unlimited sick days, funny I barely get sick now, and I take vacations when I want and go to conferences to network with like minded individuals. Cool right? Yes, I have traded in the life sentence for a profitable lifestyle.

What I had to find out the hard way
I have interviewed over 20 expert moms in business that have taken the leap and have shared their advice in order to help you on your ongoing journey or in your transition.

Within moments of speaking to Lucinda, I knew this book would be Godsend to all the women out there who feel like they’ve got one foot in the cubicle, one out the door, and like they've left their heart at home. I have been there! It’s been a few years since I left the corporate world and started my own business, but I still count my blessings every day. I am a big believer in role models. This book is full of them. Just know that you can do it! There’s a whole other way of living out there, without working mom guilt. We did it, and you can too.
